Hand-in Assignment 4 1) A 2.0kg wood block is launched up a long wooden ramp that is inclined at 30° with the horizontal ( m s = 0.5, m k = 0.2). The block’s initial speed is 10.m/s. a) What vertical height does the block reach above its initial point? b) Show that it will slide back down the ramp after coming to a stop. c) What speed does it have when it reaches its starting point? 5.45. Model: We will represent the wood block as a particle, and use the model of kinetic friction and kinematics. Assume w sin q > f s , so it does not hang up at the top. Visualize: The block ends where it starts, so x 2 = x 0 = 0 m. We expect v 2 to be negative, because the block will be moving in the – x -direction, so we’ll want to take | v 2 | as the final speed. Because of friction, we expect to find | v 2 | < v 0 . Solve: (a) The friction force is opposite to v , so r f k points down the slope during the first half of the motion and up the slope during the second half.

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
