What can we do? o Certified Teachers Hire only teachers that are certified in the areas they are hired to teach Schools hire teachers right now that are not certified in the area they are going to teach, which places students at a disadvantage To get more qualified teachers: Need to have more stringent requirements as to who can teach Pay teachers more money o Class size reduction By making classrooms smaller the teacher can give more one on one attention to each student A low teacher to student ratio is especially important to kids from low income families who have not had a chance to get much help from their families o Up to date facilities and equipment Different parts of the school such as labs and restrooms may be rundown and not work Schools may not have a football field, track, gym or music room They may not have band instruments, microscopes, chalk, books, computers, or
