Exam #1 Study Guide
The exam will be divided into two more or less equal parts. The first will test your
listening, and the second will be a fairly standard multiple choice/true false format with
which you are all familiar.
Part 1- Listening
There will be a total of 12 examples played for you in class. You will hear each example
twice (each example will have a duration of approximately 30 seconds) and then once
again, after all examples have been played. The list of possible examples is:
CD #1 Tracks 1, 4, 6, 11, 16, 23, 25, 29, 32, 34, 35, 37, 43, 50, 52, 55, 58, 62, 68
CD #2 Track 1
Some of the examples played will not be from this list, and will test basic comprehension
of vocabulary words, just like on the first quiz. You should be familiar with the concepts
of meter, text setting, texture, etc.
For the examples from the list, you will be expected to know the name of the composer as
well as the title of the piece (you will have a list from which to choose). You will also be
asked questions about the nature of the music itself, again, applying basic vocabulary
