Professor Wolf Labor M180 4/21/08 Port of Los Angeles APL Terminal (Eagle Marine Services) Established in May 1997, the APL shipping port is located at the South Terminal of the Los Angeles Port. Spanning 300 acres, it is one of the world’s largest and most technologically advance ocean and rail container terminals in the country. The port is operated by Eagle Marine Services and is one of the oldest operation lines which specializes in integrated stevedoring and terminal operations. 1 Background: APL Shipping: In 1997, Neptune Orient Line (NOL) acquired APL Limited for $825 million and is a vertically integrated logistics company in the business of shipping and related businesses. NOL, based in Singapore, is one of the world’s largest global transport and related services, specializing in intermodal time critical transport, US flag services, break bulk, over-sized, hazardous and refrigerated cargo. The Singapore government holds 68% of the company. 2
