Fall 2013 1 English 265: Introductory Creative Writing Syllabus (Fall 2013) The following is a list of the dates on which we will be studying texts, and handing in, distributing, and workshopping student writing. These dates may vary depending on the pacing of the classes and tutorials and any events that may come up during the year (eg: guest speakers, etc.). Please have texts read before we discuss them in class. All texts aside from occasional handouts are in the English 265.01 course pack available from Bound and Copied (MacEwan Hall, 1st Floor). Tutorial /Workshop Assignment (10%): All students must hand in one assignment for workshopping in the tutorial. Submission of exercises and assignments, and participation in the workshop will be included in the participation grade. The assignments will vary depending on when in the semester the assignment is due. See the table below for details regarding the tutorial/workshop assignments. Assignments for Grading (each worth 15%): All students must hand in for grading: 5 pages of fiction (either a complete short story or an excerpt); and EITHER 5-8 pages of poetry (which must include 1 example of found poetry, 1 example of the “Wunderbar” exercise, and 1 example of “Tell a story without telling a story” poem) OR 5 pages of playwriting (a complete scene with a beginning, middle, and end) for grading.
