In Carvers story, “Cathedral” the only one with a name is the blind man, Robert. Carver probably, chose to give only this character a name because sometimes human beings who can actually see are blind on the inside. Their heart and soul are empty and usually people with disabilities learn to appreciate the little things in life better than others. Robert is a huge part of this story, because he is able to see life in a better and different perspective. The couple does not have a healthy relationship and marriage. The husband is kind of ignorant and has no interest in anything. At first, the husband is jealous of the blind man relationship he has with narrator’s wife. He worries about petty things instead of enjoying and living life to the fullest with his wife.The husband speaks poorly about Robert and even mocks his wife by telling her he is going to take him bowling.
