The Myths of Innovation
, by Scott Berkun, was written to share with managers that what
is important in the creative process is not facts, but big ideas. He presents to the readers the ten
myths of innovation that will ensure success if understood and applied. His main point is this--
facts is not at all what creativity is all about. It is important to be bold, unafraid, and open to new
ideas. Berkun’s purpose of sharing this message is to better the success of businesses and the
careers of innovators everywhere.
This book relates to my education because getting my education requires many new ideas
and people who can stand up and support those ideas. As a college student, you are expected to
know more than the average person and be able to do more on your own, and being on your own
means generating your own ideas. Being a music major, there is a lot of history to learn about
how music works. Over the years, different music techniques have been improved which makes
it faster and easier to do music related things such as reading and translating music, learning how
to solve musical equations, and figuring out the key you are in. This has made my education a lot
easier for me and my generation’s music majors. I know the music industry will continue to
evolve over time for other musicians to come. I understand that all inventions are used from
ideas in the past, which helps them to grow overtime.
The United States public school system has killed almost all of my creativity skills. Not
just mine, but almost every child in my generation who has been in it. Almost every school

system favors STEM classes over the arts and classes like home education. I can remember
