Design Awareness Report #1 April 7 th , 2008 For my first design awareness report, I visited Valley Furniture & Interiors in Redmond, Washington. I really enjoyed my experience there, because the style of the firm was that of my style, although it was very expensive! I told an employee that I was an Interior Design Student at Bellevue Community College, and she seemed very excited to tour me around the showroom and tell me about everything they had. The whole firm was separated into harmonious spaces of similar pieces. Valley Furniture & Interiors has a very formal traditional style, with few elements of casual traditional style as well. Unformatted text preview: included exquisitely hand-carved darkly stained furniture, large traditional paintings of landscapes, rod iron tables, and plush sofas. Overall, the theme was very rich and glamorous. I also learned that Valley Furniture & Interiors receives the framework of their chairs, tables, sofas and other furniture unfinished and not upholstered. This is interesting because that way they can custom stain and upholster each piece according to the preferences of customers. I think that is very smart, rather than having to order custom pieces. Overall I had a good and interesting experience touring Valley Furniture & Interiors....
