Describe each type. - The two different types of deterrence are "General Deterrence", which is the idea that if people see the punishments given to offenders, they will be less likely to commit crimes themselves. The other type of deterrence is "Specific Deterrence", which occurs when a specific person is punished harshly toward their crimes to hopefully prevent them from committing the same crime in the future. 3. Why are victims considered the first “gatekeepers” of the criminal justice system?
