7.1: Nomenclature Find the longest chain, name accordingly If a multiple bond is present, the parent chain must contain it. Number the carbon atoms starting at the end nearest the first substituent (halogen or alkyl) Tiebreaker: If substituents are found the same distance from both ends, begin numbering at the end nearer the substituent earlier in alphabetical order
