Edward Phillips CHM1045L Lab Investigation 4 - How could you make more of this dye? During lab investigation 4, the goal of the experiment was to find how many grams of red and blue dye was needed to make more purple dye. A homogenous mixture of two or more substances is called a solution. Simple solutions consist of one solvent and one or more solutes. The solvent is the major liquid component of the mixture in solutions that contain one or more liquids. The most common solutions are aqueous solutions and in that case the solvent is the water. Concentration is reported in units of molarity (moles/liter (mol/L)) and concentration of a particular solute is the ratio of the amount of solute to the amount of solution or solvent. If the concentration of a solution is unknown, it can be measured by determining the amount of light it absorbs at a particular wavelength, using a spectrophotometer. Beer’s law connects absorbance and concentration together by this equation: A = ε l c, where A= absorbance, ε= molar absorptivity, l= distance the light travels through the solution, and c=concentration. The way we

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
