CONFLICTING VIEWPOINTS
Gun control in America is one of the most controversial and well-fought areas in
American politics which is clearly defined by the gun control activists and the gun rights
activists pitted against each other. The United States is believed to have 88.8 guns per 100 people
which translate to roughly 270 million guns in civilian custody and care (ProCon, 2016). Gun
control should be emphasized, and strict measures should be put in place to control buying and
the usage of firearms.
Harsher penalties should be imposed on those who violate gun laws or use
firearms for illegal purposes.
The hard punishments could make people think twice before using
guns illegally.
Individuals who purchase a firearm should have a mental screening before
purchase.
That would keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill.
