Retrieved January 18, 2016, from This particular story is about a relationship between brothers and how one of the brothers addicted to drugs. The story takes place in late 1950’s Harlem. The story depicts the struggle one brother has with addiction and the other brothers promise to his mother to take care of his brother. In this story the only thing that helps the addicted brother is jazz music and how it makes him feel alive. Due to the drug addiction, the brothers are torn and deal with a lot of animosities. The main idea or theme of the story seems to be drug addiction, but toward the end, it's apparent that it has more to characteristics of empathy and acceptance.
