Vatel- Prince de Conde wants King Louis to make him the general for the war. Vatel is in charge of feeding and entertainment of hundreds of guests while trying to awe the king while he is there. The merchants come to Vatel about being in debt due to his credit use but he assures them that if this visit with the king goes well they will get their money back bc the prince is “a man of honor” Vatel does not suck up to the kings brother Vatel deals with everything from handling monkey bites to .. We see a peasant come up in smocks and throw something at the King and crying because her son was killed working on Versailles. The Prince says “have you no control over your people?” to Vatel and she is to be flogged 100 lashes The Kings brother and friends treats Vatel very peasant-like When royal children start causing a ruckus they talk to Vatel saying “do you know who I am?” when Anne speaks to them they bow to her
