CATHAY PACIFIC CARGOCathay Pacific is an international airline registered and based in Hong Kong. It offers scheduled passenger and cargo services to 203 destinations across 50 countries and territories all over the world. Cathay Pacific was founded by an American Roy C Farrell and Australian Sydney H de Kantzow in Hong Kong on September 24th, 1946. The two men were initially based in Shanghai, but they eventually made the bold decision to move to Hong Kong in order to establish the airline. The relatively new company began operations shortly, offering passenger flights to Manila, Bangkok, Singapore and Shanghai. Due to their perseverance, business expansion was fast and, in 1948, one of Hong Kong's leading trading companies, Butterfield & Swire (today known as the Swire Group) managed to secure a 45% share in the company. Under the strong leadership of John Kidston Swire, Butterfield & Swire assumed responsibility for the management of the airline (Cathay Pacific, 2016).
