Joshua Sipe English What Should the Legal Drinking Age Be? The United States drinking age at the moment is twenty-one when it should be lowered to eighteen. Only four countries on earth have a drinking age of twenty-one. The other countries that have a drinking requirement include Ukraine, South Korea and Malaysia. Many countries don’t even have a drinking restriction based on age. (NYRA) Once eighteen you are considered an adult and are granted many new rights so why shouldn’t drinking be one of them? Youth prohibitionists argue that the drinking age should remain at twenty-one but most people under the age of twenty-one can easily access alcohol. Nearly three quarters of 8 th graders or seventy-one percent say that it is “fairly easy” or “very easy” to obtain alcohol. (NYRA). This clearly shows that the laws placed on alcohol consumption are not working correctly and a smarter approach needs to be taken. Alcohol is a common beverage consumed among young adults so having the drinking age at twenty-one doesn’t make sense. One reasonable solution to
