Joshua Sipe Biology104 SectionM01 February 10, 2008 Title : Determining the Concentration of Bromophenol blue in an Unknown Solution Abstract : The objective of this lab was to determine the concentration of bromophenol blue in an unknown solution. This was accomplished by testing the absorances of Bromophenol blue at different wavelengths then applying the results to establish a standard curve. The absorbance rates were calculated using a spectrophotometer. The results for the lab were that the unknown substances absorbance was 0.400 which extrapolated to the concentration of the unknown as 0 .0080 mg/ml. Hypothesis : The concentration of the unknown can be found by using a standard curve. Procedure: The basis for this experimental procedure is outlined in Lab Manual Biol104(morris,TC3,Loof) pgs. 16-19. No change to the procedures were made. The peak absorbance for Bromophenol Blue to establish a standard curve was 575nm. Data:
