Violence in Hockey Amanda Hammons Background Summary In 1999, Trboyevich cross-checked Jacques Mailhot of the Fresno Falcons about five minutes into the first period. He was tossed from the game and suspended for the season by the West Coast Hockey League. Trboyevich was assessed with a major penalty for high-sticking and a match penalty for attempting to injure after the cross-check. Mailhot apparently didn't suffer any serious injury and continued playing, scoring his first goal of the season The penalty triggered a bench-clearing brawl that led to the ejection of 11 players. The Aces lost six players, leaving them with 11 for the rest of the game, which they lost 7-6. Trboyevich and Mailhot also had a run-in Jan. 1 in Anchorage. During that game, Mailhot hit Trboyevich in the mouth with his stick. Trboyevich lost part of a tooth and needed 10 stitches to close a gash in his mouth. It was Mailhot who wanted Trboyevich arrested, making the request between the first and second periods. An off-ice official called authorities, and Mailhot was questioned at Selland Arena. Trboyevich was arrested at his hotel after the game.
