Comm 10 Essay Exam No.1 COMM 10 (1159) 2:45-4:50pm Tsui, Tsz Kin Martin (Martin) Q: In your opinion, what should the FCC’s policy/penalties be for “indecency” on the “public airwaves?” Be specific, and explain why. Should FCC regulations also include cable television and satellite radio programming and/or broadcasts that seem to incite hate and racism or spread lies and misinformation? Why? Thesis Statement: The FCC should not just fine the broadcasts for “indecency” on the “public airwaves”, but also suspend the program director or the executive producer’s license for that matter . At the same time, their regulations should also include cable television and satellite radio programming and/or broadcasts that may incite hate and racism or spread lies and misinformation. When people said say somebody did something indecent, we know that particular “something” is impropriety and/or immodesty because it offended other people blatantly, at least for most of the time (?) . Although that “something” may not necessarily being offensive to all the others, it may still causing cause uncomfortableness discomfort to a group of people. Therefore, when it comes to multimedia, a program which includes vision and/or hearing that violated violates the moral standard in a community, the related organizations, multimedia companies or broadcast networks are deserved deserve to be penalized. However, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), an independent United States government agency that regulate s all the radio and television broadcasting in the U.S., has too less little authority to discipline those who play ed a program through television or radio that is considered obscene, inappropriate and impolite. Therefore, I personally think that they should have more rights or power to control, to regulate those
