Adewole 1 Ayomide Adewole Mrs. Hunt History 1301 WY1--5th Period 16 November 2015 Tensions between North and South In the years 1820-1860, the North and South of the United States had several conflicts with each other due to different ideas they had of how the country should be. Many events of such political struggle led up to the Civil War between the two sides. Some of these events included the Dred Scott decision, The Compromise of 1850, and Kansas-Nebraska Act. In 1857, a slave by the name of Dred Scott went to the court in Missouri in order to sue for his and his family’s freedom. Scott went with his master to the North in St. Louis and then his master died so he assumed that he was a free man. His case went to the U.S. Supreme Court and was rejected with a vote of 7-2. This case a lasting impact on the political, social, and legal issues that were spreading throughout the country. After Dred Scott’s case was decided, portions of the
