INTRODUCTION The society we live in is composed of social institutions that govern every single occurrence around. The institutions in short form the foundation on which the world and its constituents base on. The following are some of the existing institutions; Family ; it’s a social group characterized by a common residence, economic cooperation and reproduction. Government; It is the system by which a state or community is controlled .It is also a collective group of people that exercises executive authority in a state. Education; referred to the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction. It is the facilitating of knowledge, skills, values, beliefs and habits to a group of people. Politics; Referrers to the way a group of people make decisions together and it consists use of power. Religion; It’s a unified system of beliefs and practices relative to sacred things ,by sacred meaning things set apart and forbidden beliefs and practices which unite into one single moral community called a church and to all those who adhere to them.

The detailed discussion is shown below; THE FAMILY Family is asocial group characterized by a common residence, economic cooperation and reproduction. It includes adults of both sexes at least two of whom maintain a socially approved sexual relations and one or more children owned or adopted of the sexually. The family lives together, pulls its resources and works together and produces offspring. ELEMENTS OF THE FAMILY Working with the family unit ensure the safety and wellbeing of all family members Encaging, empowering and partnering with families thought the decision and goal making processes Developing a relationship between parents and service providers’characterized by mutual trust, respect, honesty and open communication. Providing individualized culturally responsive, flexible and relevant services for each family. VARIATION OF FAMILY STRUCTURE The structure of the family vary from society to society. a) Nuclear family consist of husband and wife and is the smallest family unit. It also consist of a husband and wife and their children. b) Extended family is larger than nuclear family it is an extension of the basic, nuclear unit either vertical extensions for example the additions of member of that generation such as spouses such as husbands brother or an additional wife.

FUNCTIONS OF THE FAMILY Socialization It is the process by which children learn to become human and adopt certain behaviors Rules of behaviors The family teaches appropriate behaviors, what to expect, and how to interact in everyday life Patterns of interaction Studies show that children have been deprived of close family relations which leads to emotional problems as adults.
