UNIT I SCHOLARLY ACTIVITY2Windows vs Mac OSIn society today it is common to see a computer as a household essential. With advancements in technology, these intel-powered machines bring improved productivity, virtual ‘cloud’ storage, personal assistants and they are compatible with your mobile devices. Some households choose their computers based off from their operating system. The two main contenders are Microsoft and Apple bringing in the latest upgrades to their operating systems: MacOS X and Windows 10. While there are many similarities to these systems, there are also a few differences. It all depends on your personal preference to decide which you want in your home. Operating systems are the most vital part of any computer and are fascinating. It can manage your software, hardware, computer memory and processes all at once without slowing down. It allows you to communicate with the computer and without it, your computer would be useless. The operating system accesses the computer’s central processing unit, memory, and storage to make sure each program running at the same time gets what it needs to function properly. These operating systems use a graphical user interface that allows your mouse to click icons and menus that are clearly displayed on the screen. Windows and Mac systems have a different look and feel to them, but they are both designed to be easy to use. Windows 10’s start menu provides you with a shortcut to your applications, documents and settings while featuring Live Tiles that highlight applications of your choosing while providing a shortcut to them. Not only can you chose the applications, you can change the layoutof them as well. Windows 10 has changed from its predecessors by providing a snap feature that enables users to have up to four applications on the screen at once, which is perfect for multi-tasking. Microsoft has removed Internet Explorer as the main web browser and replaced it with
UNIT I SCHOLARLY ACTIVITY3Edge. The operating system allows you to share functions between your computer and smartphone, such as sending SMS messages. Windows 10 includes OneDrive, which offers 5GB of free storage with options to pay to increase your storage.
