Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical Engineering EE 448L, Spring 2008 Homework Set #1 Due at the beginning of class, 18 January Consider an RO4003 board (manufactured by the Rogers Corporation) with “1-oz” copper on the front and back planes. A microstrip transmission line is formed on the front plane by removing the copper along two parallel strips with 10-mil width. Determine the microstrip width (spacing between strips) that produces Z o = 50 Ω. (data at www.rogerscorporation.com) A computer solution is acceptable. Due at the beginning of class, 23 January Problem 1 Consider 2200 meters of RG-35 cable (data at www.rfcafe.com). (a) Specify the capacitance, inductance, and series resistance per meter. (b) Find the time needed for a step pulse to reach the end of the cable. (c) Find the attenuation of a 400-MHz signal in dB at the end of the cable. Problem 2 A load impedance Z = 120 + 30 Ω connects to a 50-Ω transmission line. Determine the fractional incident power that the load can absorb.
