Matthew Blackman PHIL 106 October 30th, 2014 The Cosmological Argument Introduction What caused the universe to exist, was it some random event or was there a cause behind its existence? A Christian philosopher by the name of William Lane Craig answered this question in the mid 1950’s with the Cosmological Argument. In this argument he gave the reasons of why a God exists in relation to the universe. The purpose of this paper is to explain the Cosmological Argument to you and prove that it is an unsound argument. Extract P1.) Whatever begins to exist has a cause of its existence. P2.) The universe began to exist. C.) Therefore, the universe has a cause. Explain This first premise is the foundation for Craig’s entire argument. He states that for everything that exists in the material world has a cause for its existence. Everything that we know of can be linked back to a cause of why it exists. For example things like why the sky is blue and why humans eat food can all be linked back to a cause.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
