Research Project & Presentation HF 270 Lodging Operations and Technology Spring 2017 Objective: To expand your knowledge of a specific lodging establishment of the Hotel Industry, utilizing research skills and presentation techniques. This research assignment will be completed in teams of three (3). Select an Establishment : You can select any hotel brand that you are interested in researching. The establishment can either be a chain operation, franchise operation or independently owned/operated. Please note that if you select an independent property you will need to ensure that you are able to obtain the research necessary to complete this project. Since a large portion of research will come from a personal interview, you should make your selection based on ability to schedule an interview. A personal interview would be the best option; however, the option of a phone interview could be utilized for a hotel, not within the Boston region. Research: You will need to utilize sources, such as, the internet, industry magazines, industry books, and interviews. The library will be a great source of information. You will need to site your references in a ‘References” page at the end of your paper. You should note sources of information in parenthetical notation according to APA format. Interview: You will need to make contact with the Front Office Manager, Guest Service Manager, or General Manager of the property you are researching. In addition, you will want to try and secure an interview with the Executive Housekeeper and Director of Engineer /Security. This contact is suggested to start over the phone. You want to make an appointment to meet with this person for a research interview for a student research project. Inform the manager, that you are a student at BU. Explain that the interview should take approximately 30 minutes to one hour. 1

THIS INTERVIEW CAN BE CONDUCTED OVER THE PHONE OR DONE IN PERSON; although it is strongly encouraged that you try to meet in person, when possible. Preparation for this interview is key. You will need to layout your interview and determine your open-ended questions in advance. You must write or type out your questions so that you are fully prepared. If you need assistance with your questions prior to your interview, I am available for assistance. The instructor must approve your questions, in advance. Be prepared with a writing instrument and notepad to write your answers on. In the event that you are able to coordinate an in-person interview, you could opt to record the session, so that you don’t miss anything, but you MUST get permission from the interviewee prior to recording.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
