College of Business Administration FINA 3301-02 Corporate Finance Syllabus for Fall 2015 Course Description: Designed to develop the skills needed to make and implement financial policy decisions in a global economy. Specific objectives include developing an understanding of financial analysis; company valuation; capital markets; cost of capital; capital asset pricing and risk management; short- and long-term financial policies; working capital management; multinational financial management; and special topics including lease financing, debt refunding, mergers and acquisitions, and bankruptcy and restructuring. Offers opportunities to consider many broader issues including the relevance of globalization; the world economy; technological advances; and legal, social, and ethical issues related to the practice of corporate finance. Stresses written and oral communication skills and teamwork. Uses cases and spreadsheets extensively. Requirements: Text: Fundamentals of Financial Management , Brigham & Houston, 14th Edition and related Aplia system materials. Subscription information is posted on BlackBoard. Coursepack: FINA 3301 Coursepack is a packet of cases studies, available online (see Blackboard for instructions and a link) Financial Calculator: Students are required to have a financial calculator capable of computing NPV, IRR, and bond evaluation. The Texas Instruments BA II Plus is recommended. Blackboard Access: Students are required to login to blackboard each day to obtain course announcements, additional assignments, etc. Aplia : In addition to class preparation, all students are required to complete weekly Aplia assignments. content and may not always agree completely with classroom discussions. For Aplia problems, use textbook formulas and 365 days in a year. Wall Street Journal: Students are expected read The Wall Street Journal and other business publications and be familiar with current business news. Discounted subscription offers are available through the university and sign-up form will be made available the first week of class. Class Preparation: You need to complete the assigned readings, problems, and cases prior to coming to class. You do not need to achieve perfection before coming to class, but you should be familiar with the material and be prepared to participate in the discussion. You should always have a financial calculator and text book with you in class. You will be provided with a student name card for this class. Please bring it with you to every class and settle on a regular seat by the second week of class.
