Selected Answer: I think that it s important how all of the judges immediately think about how Ivan Illych s death with be to their advantage as opposed to grieving like most people would. It demonstrates how they are detached and alienated from others just like Ivan Illych was. They start thinking about promotions and transfers. Peter thinks about his wife will be glad if he applies for his brother-in-law s transfer. They talk about Ivan Illych s death for a moment, and then they start talking about inconsequential things.
