Travis Marziani Psychology 235 PP Paper # 8 Masculine Self Ch.7 1. From reading this chapter it really becomes apparent how important the first few years of childhood really are. It talks about how children need a environment that is always positive where they have worth no matter what they are doing but that seems hard because certain things should be told the kids that are no no’s. For example if a child is going to put a fork in the outlet then you should tell him not to and make sure he or she knows that they shouldn’t do that. It may seem however from a psychologists point of view that you are stopping their creative and explorative nature, however it seems very important to me that a child knows not to do certain things because they child could easily get hurt. 2. This chapter is interesting to me because I don’t think that I was born to be an athlete and growing up I wasn’t that great at sports I was never aggressive or anything else. However it

I worked really hard and my dad really helped me to be the best player that I could be. In the course of a year I went from pretty much just another player to the mvp of the team. For me once I started being good at sports from their it really has blossomed and I think that I have started working even harder to be the best I can be. 3. My Question is How bad is it to tell kids not do something’s such as things that could be dangerous to them? 4. I was kind of confused on the existential theory. My question is how is like and unlike the Humanistic theory. 5. I think this whole book and especially this chapter is interesting because it goes over why guys wont ask for directions and other such things like that. I think that not asking for directions isn’t a bad thing its cause guys want to figure things out on their own which is ok....
