It details numerous controversial issues that challenge the political system today. The author, Stephen J. Wayne, wrote this book with the intention of bringing to light some vital issues in American electoral politics, and possibly even reveal things that some citizens were not aware about. Wayne also wrote this book in attempt to push citizens to better the system by being more involved. The first chapter begins by describing numerous contemporary election issues within the system. Some of these problems include low voter turnout, problems with voting practices, high costs spent in campaigns, unequal resources between campaigns, and media coverage.
