(0.5 point) α = P ( t 3.733 when t has a t distribution with 15 d.f.) =.001, because the 15 d.f. row of Table A.5 shows that t .001,15 = 3.733. b. (0.5 point) d.f. = n–1 = 23, so α = P ( t -2.500) = .01. c. (0.5 point) d.f. = 30, α = P ( t 1.697) + P ( t -1.697) = .05 + .05 = .10. 2. (3 points) p. 337, problem #18. a. (0.5 point) (72.3-75)/(9/sqrt(25)) = -1.5, or 1.5 standard deviations below the null value b. (0.5 point) For α = 0.01 and Ha: μ < 75, the critical value is –z.01 = -2.33. Since -1.5 > -2.33, we fail to reject H0 in favor of Ha.
