1 Broadway on Xanadu Rob Ahrens decision to produce Xanadu the Broadway Musical was a big risk undertaken by an entrepreneur. I would take the same risk if I was Ahrens. He chose to produce the play based on a movie which had failed miserably. However, working in the line of film production, Ahrens made the best decision to adapt the movie into a theatre play. He saw potential in the play as it was staged illegally by armatures in Los Angeles and to his amazement, the play had an audience. The reception of a play staged by armatures is an indication that if the play was produced professionally, it would attract a good audience and hence it is worth producing. Ahrens was careful in the course of making development and marketing choices. Making a wrong move would bring the play crumbling just as the movie from which it had been adapted. The first move that he made in development was to secure the permission to stage the play. He contacted the five rights holders of the Xanadu movie, a process which took him four years.
