There is no conflict between science and religion. The conflict is between people who misunderstand science, religion, or both. Objectivity: personal neutrality conducting research. The more serious the crime, the more likely an investigator will break rules to solve it. The more serious the research question, the easier it is for bias to creep into the results. Because sociology studies topics of extreme importance to many people, objectivity is difficult in social research. Max Weber: We are all biased, but a good scientist can keep personal interests separate from research Replication: repeating research by different people in different settings to assess its accuracy Ethnography describes participant observation of human behavior. Researchers participate in the culture they study. Nature vs Nurture: Does biolgy or culture determine human behavior?
