Kelly Mahoney The Bubble Discussion Section 4 “The Bubble” is set in Tel Aviv and is aptly named so because of the peacefulness of the city in the midst of the violent turmoil in the Middle East. Tel Aviv is a haven for open-minded, left winged youths, like the four main characters, three homosexual males and a female, who all live together. Lulu is a fashion designer who is shafted by a man she is trying to hold on to. Yali and Noam are best friends who live with Lulu. Ashraf comes into the picture when he and Yali cross paths at a checkpoint. Ashraf and Yali fall in love, which serves as the basis for the rest of the film. I tried to think about trauma and how negative events impact people like a domino effect. When the Palestinian woman gives birth to a dead baby, the scene is set for the tensions between Israel and Palestine, as well as queer and straight people. The Israeli soldiers try to help the woman, but when they can’t, the Palestinian travelers think they let the baby die. Throughout the film, Lulu stresses “dancing for peace” and resisting the
