COMPREHENSIVE TEEN SEX EDUCATION SECTIONS III, IV AND V 2 Comprehensive Teen Sex Education What is sex education? Sex education is the education students receive in regards to sex so that they can then make educated decisions about their sexual health. Sex education helps these students to be prepared for issues regarding teen pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). The main goal of sex education within our school systems is to give students as much information as we possibly can so that they can be better prepared to make decisions for their sexual health throughout their lives. Sex education is a tool for informing our students about sex so that they can then make educated decisions for themselves. In providing our students with sex education, we are preparing them to make smart decisions when they do decide to become sexually active. They need to be prepared for any issues that may arise due to having sex, such as pregnancy or contracting an STD. If a teen is properly informed, they will be much more prepared for sexual activity and how to make smart choices. Teen girls are who have only been provided an abstinence-only education program were less likely to have used a condom during their first sexual encounter. Teen girls who were provided a comprehensive education program were more likely to have used a condom during their first sexual encounter (Doshkosh, P., 2012, p. 270). With this information, it is evident that comprehensive sex education is more effective in teaching teen girls to make smarter decisions. There are two different methods to teaching sex education; abstinence only and comprehensive sex education. Abstinence only education strictly teaches students to abstain from any sexual activities until marriage. This form of education does not provide students the additional information about preventing teen pregnancy and STDs. Comprehensive sex education provides information to students regarding relationships and their decision-making

This form of education provides information on how the students can prevent teen pregnancy and STDs as well as providing an option of abstinence. What is the most effective form of education for preventing teen pregnancy in the United States? Abstinence only education programs are pushing teenagers to delay their sexual activity until they are married and do not provide safe-sex alternatives. Comprehensive sex education provides this information at an age-appropriate level. Through comprehensive sex education, students are provided information to prevent teen pregnancy and STDs through safe sex. Unsafe sex, often called risky sexual behavior, “has adverse health and academic consequences for adolescents and young adults” (Grossman, Tracy, Charmaraman, Ceder, & Erkut, 2014, p. 739).

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
