NURS 6521 N-30 WEEK 3 MAIN DISCUSSION POST1NURS 6521 N-30 Week 3 Main Discussion PostCase Study 1:Patient AO has a history of obesity and has recently gained 9 pounds. The patient has been diagnosed with hypertension and hyperlipidemia. Drugs currently prescribed include the following: Atenolol 12.5 mg daily, Doxazosin 8 mg daily, Hydralazine 10 mg daily, Sertraline 25mg daily and Simvastatin 80 mg daily.Patient Factor: BehaviorLifestyle behaviors such as poor eating habits and being sedentary can lead to obesity. Obesity can influence how the body affects medications. Distribution is affected by ratio of adipose tissue to lean body mass if lipid soluble, may increase dose required to gain effect, and can alter protein binding (Nickson, 2015). Careful therapeutic drug monitoring is important in obese patients. The pharmacodynamics profile of drugs may also be affected, for example, the risk of respiratory depression and loss of airway patency is greater with sedatives and narcotics (Nickson, 2015).
