The Juxtaposition of The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians vs. The National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians. At first glance of a side by side comparison between two of the largest groups of EMTs, one would believe them to be starkly different. However, there exist several underlying threads of commonality. While having different roles in the EMS community, both associations are on a national level. Both promote the competency and professional image of the EMS community. Differences come to light in the actual role of each non-profit, as reflected in their mission statements. The NREMT has a specific goal of serving as the National certification organization for EMS. The NAEMT’s mission is more board in nature by ‘…representing and serving EMS practitioners… through advocacy, educational programs and research.’ Since 1970 the NREMT has served as the national certification organization for the EMS community. The registry creates a clear, uniform assessment process for the skills and knowledge
