How does Robert Hayden use Literary Features to Show his Fathers Hard Work and How Does it Reflect on Your Life? I Looking back at his Childhood, Robert Hayden appreciates his father’s hard work and caring. His choice of diction and literary features truly enhances a vivid picture in the reader’s mind, showing his father’s agonizing daily responsibilities. 1. a. His father’s daily job has no day off. b. “Sundays too my father got up early” c. Diction is used here. “too” means that his father gets up early everyday of the week. d. In my situation, my father would wake up early every weekday to cook breakfast and wake us up for school even though his job started at noon. 2. a. Hayden sets up the mood using a metaphorical description. b. “blueblack cold”

c. Cold in literal meaning has no color, however when described as “blueblack” a horrible, lifeless mood is set, which sends the reader into shivers. It would seem insane for someone to wake up every day in these harsh weather conditions. d. This case has no application to my life whatsoever since I come from a country where temperatures soar up to 120 degrees. If anything I would have experienced Yellowred heat.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
