I A perfect place can never exist. It never existed in the history of mankind, and it has a very good chance of not existing in the future. Omelas however, is the closest mankind have ever achieved. A. 1. Under any circumstances Omelas will still run as Utopian city. 2. “or they could have none of that: it doesn't matter. As you like it” 3. The writer here talks about if they had inventions of luxury such as washing machines or subways. She says that it doesn’t matter if they had these luxuries, Omelas would run just as fine. Omelas is a wonderful place built on a wonderful history. “The joy built upon successful slaughter is not the right kind of joy.” Everything reinforces that Omelas is a place of perfection. B. 1. The price of which Omelas is running at is indeed small for such a successful city. 2. Everything that keeps the city running “depend wholly on this child's abominable misery” 3. The child misery comes at a high value that no one can afford to lose. Who knows, maybe if the child is set free, chaos comes about and another ten children suffer for no price at all. One bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Isn’t the suffering of one child close enough to perfection as oppose to the world we have now?
