Unformatted text preview: Optical Spectroscopy Results and Discussion: An experiment was performed to observe the emission spectra of a variety of sources. A handheld spectroscope and a research-grade spectrometer were employed to determine the composition of multiple solutions since emission spectra of a particular compound is unique to that particular compound. Also, a partial energy diagram was constructed by using the data obtained from the hydrogen spectrum. The results from this experiment are attached. In order to determine the composition of unknown solution 3 , a comparison of its light spectrum was made to the other known solution. The unknown solution was similar to NaCl because both produced a wavelength around 589nm and 766nm. The unknown was similar to LiCl as well because they both share 670nm. CaCl 2 is similar to the unknown in that both share 555 nm and 625 nm. Therefore the unknown solution 3 similar to the unknown in that both share 555 nm and 625 nm....
