Plate Tectonic Theory The Geologic Paradigm Review Questions 1. Define the following terms: tectonic plate, lithosphere, asthenosphere 2. Be able to label the major tectonic plates and give examples (such as Himalayas, Aleutian Islands, East Pacific Rise) of different plate tectonic boundaries. 3. Explain how tectonic plates are identified. 4. Describe the processes occurring at different tectonic boundaries and explain the occurrence of the geologic features (such as earthquakes, volcanoes, mountains) found at each. 5. Be able to draw a cross- section of a typical divergent, convergent, and transform boundary labeling all of the significant parts. 6. Describe how intraplate volcanism occurs and how it can help scientists determine absolute spreading rates. 7. Describe the forces that drive plate tectonics. 8. Explain why spreading rates may differ at various ridges. Given descriptions of a different continental margins be able to predict the spreading rate.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
