Results and Discussion : An experiment was performed in order to determine the density of an unknown liquid and an unknown solid. The density was determined by measuring the mass and volume of the unknown matter. The mass of the solid was measured by using an electronic balance, while its volume was measured by displacement of water, the initial volume of water was subtracted from the total volume of the water and the unknown solid combined. For the unknown liquid, the volume was determined by using a graduated cylinder, while its mass was measured by also using an electronic balance. Three experimental trials were performed for the measuring the mass and volume of the unknown solid. The data and calculated results are tabulated.
