Chemical Thinking P2S2 Pre-Lab Worksheet v1.1 | Project 2 Session 2 Pre-Lab Worksheet GRADE ____ /10 p For the following questions you will need copies of, or access to, the Centrifugation v1.8 , Gravity Filtration v1.9 , Syringe Filter v1.9 and Solvent Evaporation v2.5 technical guides (which are on D2L). The purpose of this exercise is to familiarize yourself with the basic applications and limitations of the techniques before working with them in lab. Question 1 Volume Limits (4 p) Using only the information in the guides complete the table below which concerns the volume limits of several techniques. Technique Recommended Volume Range (Volume range the technique can comfortably handle as per the guides ) Centrifugation (volume range for a single 15 mL centrifuge tube ) Between 1-10 mL. Gravity Paper Filtration Volumes of 10 mL or more. Filtration Pipette No more than 10mL and sometimes 20 mL if the liquid is free of solids. Syringe Filter It depends on the size of the baker being used, but 1-7mL for a 20 mL beaker and 7-15mL for a 50mL beaker.
