A Place of Their Own Chapters 1 & 2 Questions 1- What is the difference between the Old and New Testament’s view on Deafness? Old Testament view deaf people community good. Old Testament optimistic, empathetic positive about deaf people. Lord say blind and deaf treat with respect. New Testament, have negative view of deaf people and community. Say deaf people sick and possess with demon. Say also deaf have no faith and can’t be Christians or saved because can’t hear. Old Testament cause damage to view of deaf people. 2- Physicians pinpointed the problem of deafness, what was it? They felt that they found a cure for deafness by using what? Physicians think deaf no hear and problem need fix. Try fix with loud noise in deaf people’s ears. Cause pain, bleeding, destroy any hearing deaf person have. Treatment unethical and very unsuccessful. Physician also try put liquid in deaf people ear, no help. Deaf people no need fix, can read, write, communicate, do anything hearing person do given chance.
