Reading Assignment 1 Invertebrates, especially insects, are an essential part of the ecosystem and world. However, attitudes towards these creatures tends to be negative. In Values and Perceptions of Invertebrates, by Stephen R. Kellert, it is expressed that many individuals view invertebrates in a negative manner for several distinct reasons. For example, one of the reasons that struck me as making the most sense is human biological response to fear insects. The article goes into detail stating that our innate fear of insects and other invertebrate animals is due to a predatory response of certain animals that may be seen as dangerous or unknown (Kellert 851-852). This however, does not apply to myself as I have no fear or negative attitudes regarding insects or any other invertebrates, in fact I find them fascinating and to be an essential part of the functionality of the world. Looking at the table 1 chart from the article, I would regard myself as being either Ecologistic or Utilitarian with my attitudes towards invertebrates.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
