Biofuel: “A better substitute or not” Biofuel: “A better substitute or not” There is a significant statement used in economics textbooks which states no natural resources to be available forever and as the time passes by, the scarcity of these resources is rising. The more important issue which will affect us is running out of fossil fuels in coming decades. This is the fuel which is backbone of energy requirements of our transport system, industrial machinery and household electronics. Besides politics, oil is the concern which governments are worried about. Many countries nowadays are only rich because they have oil. Since, oil reserves won’t last forever; this gives great concern to these wealthy nations. This is the case with most of the Arab countries in the Middle East. As nobody can deny the role of modern day transportation in our lives, the basic factor of scarcity of such fuel for the system can bring lot of suffering to our social structure. In order to deal with it, scientists and engineers are working on the substitute, a better substitute. The substitute which would consume less energy, work more and have better advantages than fossil fuels. Thus, instead of replacing the whole engine and system of the car, scientists are working to improve on fuels. Therefore, a new kind of fuel was discovered, commonly known as biofuel. Despite of the few disadvantages, biofuel have much more advantages when compared to the regular fossil fuels. It is efficient to utilize biofuel because of its economical, environmental and creational factors. Actually, the biofuel is a form of oil which is prepared from vegetables and fats mainly from sugarcane and corn. Biofuel in the market is also recognized as biodiesel. 2

Biofuel: “A better substitute or not” There are many questions raised about the fossil fuel, that why it is needed to be replaced. The reason is the production and growth of the fossil fuel. Fossil fuel takes million of years to be formed and it is a fact that world is nearby running out of such fuel. Therefore in order to have fuel in future a better substitute is highly needed, as mentioned in a statement by UN- Energy chairman Mats Carlson, “The idea of making fuel from crops is appealing, since much of the world lacks reserves of oil or other fossil fuels” (Lamb, 2007, p.17). However there are positive and negative issues raised about it. It is important to be familiar about the various prospective of the biofuel, such that it can be utilized as a fuel or not. First of all I would begin with discussing the advantages of the biofuel. There are various factors for which biofuel should come into use. Biofuel does not require the change of engine or the car itself. It is wonderful to know that the people who are using fossil fuel to run their cars do not need to actually replace their engines. They simply
