Research question week2: We got great information on Thomas Nast. I am thinking we need to find some information on the history of the profession in Europe. Where there political cartoonist working in Eu- rope? When did they begin. We could focus on France. I know they have a long history. I have seen cartoons created in the era leading up to the French Revolution. Political Cartoons shed light upon ambiguous causes in historic event and characterize the direction of a civilization through time towards obtaining classicistic ideals. It is crucial to the caricature that there is an overemphasis of the condition of a historical event that the artist wants to feature. Since the 17th century, political cartoons were regarded and has become a ex- clusive visual communication mechanism.
