ESSAY QUESTIONS 2 Role of disease and medicine in the history The field of medicine and disease is very vital in history even though it still remains a neglected area. Medicine and disease have been very significant factors throughout global history, and efforts to deal with endemic and epidemic afflictions have been key aspect of change throughout the 20 th century. It is very unfortunate that there is little literature and works by historians to pay attention on this field and human health at large. Even though there is some literature on disease in many medieval studies, mostly in trade and politics, that literature is usually covering the area of effects of tropical diseases in Europe rather than the impact of local and induced diseases on other parts of the world such as Asia and Africa. Most importantly, information on the colonial era talks about medicine so lightly, but rarely goes deep to analyze their perception by the people local in those areas and the resulting outcomes from their activities. The role of disease and medicine in History contributed to discovery of new illness in various areas whereby individuals suffering from certain disease had to be isolated for further medical care. Besides diseases led to creation of professionalism among various individuals whereby people took part in researching more about certain disease and come up with the cure. Moreover diseases and medicine lead to coming up with new methods of curbing any further suffering due to certain disease, besides they lead to creation of new methods that can be applied as a way of preventing disease. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
