Debating your ideas
In order to give your substantiated viewpoint and to be able to justify the
reasons why you are giving the position you have taken, you will need to have an
understanding of how to debate. Previous knowledge or experience of debating
will help you to prepare your thoughts and logically present the argument to be
one that is valid.
Debating skills include:
f
organising your thoughts into chronological order for presenting
f
the use of supporting statements
f
developing strategic arguments for your point over other viewpoints
f
listening and respecting opposing viewpoints:

addressing these with agreement or disagreement
•
counteracting these overall and showing how these do not hold up
against your own.
