Lab 3
Purpose:
The purpose of Lab 3 was to increase the student’s knowledge of engines and the
different types engines. The student was taught the benefits and disadvantages of different
engines such as two stroke and four strokes of a gasoline and diesel engine. The student was
taught the over different types of prime movers and each of those prime movers applications.
We were also taught what each stroke looked like and how to label the parts of each one. Also,
we were taught the differences of steam turbines and the wankel rotary engine.
Three Real World Examples:
An example of this lab would be an automobile using an internal combustion engine.
Another example would be a large F250 truck’s 4-stroke diesel engine heating its temperature
for ignition. A third example in this lab is an automobile with a 2-stroke engine using an entire
cycle to get a power cycle.
