Re: Bearings
Purpose: The purpose of this lab was to learn about the different lubrication methods and learn which
bearing would be most appropriate in their application.
Procedure: Use the SKF catalog, the Torrington catalog, the power transmission handbook, and our own
knowledge to complete the lab and finish the post lab questions.
Results: The Results of the lab are enclosed in the attached lab handouts
Conclusions/ Recommendations: Being able to identify which bearing should be used for each application
is key to own a functional machine. It is equally important to know which kind of lubricant goes with
each type of bearing to keep that bearing working for its entire expected lifespan. Bearings and lubricants
are what modern machines running quietly, efficiently, and effectively.
Real World Applications:
Bearings are used in nearly every engine so they need to be understood in order to maintain equipment
and come up with new technologies. A truck for example uses lubricants and bearings to help the
